Skiing in Big Bear

High in the San Bernardino Mountains lies the winter playground of Big Bear Lake. Here, deep in a national forest, you’ll find the perfect winter holiday getaway at the Big Bear Resort’s cabins and vacation homes. Better still, just minutes away and overlooking scenic Big Bear Lake are not one, but two incredible ski resorts.

Two For the Price of One

Big Bear Mountain Resorts boasts two unique mountains for the perfect alpine skiing and snowboarding getaway, whether you come for the day, the weekend, or the season. The resort offers a combined lift ticket good at both Snow Summit and Bear Mountain. A free shuttle connection allows you to make full use of over 436 acres of fun under the winter sun. The two mountains feature over 18 miles of downhill runs, serviced by 26 lifts and four high-speed chairs. You’ll experience thrilling runs through forest-lined areas that rise and fall over 1,800 feet and feature over 200 jumps, rails, and “funboxes.”

A Tale of Two Mountains

Snow Summit is regarded as the classic alpine experience and has runs for all skill levels, whether you ski or board. The face of the mountain and its thrilling runs are popular with experts, while the eastern slopes offer quieter, more isolated skiing. A family area is ideal for those who prefer easier jumps and smaller, though still exciting terrain.

Bear Mountain is extremely popular with snowboarders and advanced skiers thanks to its steeper vertical runs. It is also home to Southern California’s only Superpipe, along with 120 rails, boxes, and walls for all skill levels.

Perfect For Beginners

Both ski resorts offer some of the largest novice ski areas in the region. Whether it’s your first time on skis or you’re making the switch to a snowboard, these slopes were made to hone your skills. Take a lesson with some of the area’s top instructors and you’ll be carving up the rest of the mountain by the end of the day. January is Learn a Snow Sport Month and features discount rentals and lift tickets for beginners.

Of course there is plenty of fun to be had at the bottom of Big Bear’s fantastic ski runs. Cafes, shops, and restaurants offer refreshments, warm drinks, and plenty of boutiques and shops. All of this – and much more – is just minutes away from our wide selection of vacation rentals.
